Banverket is the authority that is responsible for the railways in Sweden.
This means that we monitor and conduct developments within the railway sector, assist Parliament and the Government on railway issues, are responsible for the operation and administration of the national track system, co-ordinate the local, regional and interregional rail transport and provide support for research and development on railway matters.
Banverket was established in 1988 when SJ was divided up and rail traffic deregulated. Banverket has offices in Luleå, Gävle, Borlänge, Sundbyberg, Göteborg and Malmö.
Banverket also encompasses the Railway Training Centre in Ängelholm, the Swedish Railway Museum in Gävle and Ängelholm, Banverket Production, Banverket ICT, Banverket Consulting and Banverket Materials Service.
